In the southeast of Spain Murcia’s three denominations of origin - Jumilla, Yecla, and Bullas - represent one of the country's most exciting and dynamic wine regions, where altitude, heritage, climate and innovation are shaping the next chapter of Mediterranean wine.

From organic pioneers and low-intervention producers to limestone soils and mountain vineyards, Murcia’s winemakers are pushing boundaries with Monastrell and a growing cast of other varieties, shaped by organic and sustainable practices.

This compelling trade & media tasting builds on that story and offers an insightful look at the region’s evolving identity and growing global relevance whose wines are resonating with UK buyers and consumers.

Join us for this trade and media tasting, featuring two discovery masterclasses led by the inimitable Peter Richards MW, regional food prepared by Hispania’s acclaimed culinary team and a walk-around tasting of wines that capture the region’s character, creativity and charm.

Height, Heritage & Heat: Exploring the Wines of Murcia

11.00–12.15pm: MASTERCLASS
An introduction to the region’s terroirs and the diversity shaping its signature grape, Monastrell — and beyond. Led by Peter Richards MW, this session explores how elevation, soil and sun combine to create wines of depth and vibrancy.

13.30–14.45pm: MASTERCLASS
A focused exploration of the organic and sustainable movement defining Murcia’s next generation of winemakers. Led by Peter Richards MW, discover how minimal intervention and maximum authenticity are driving new expressions of regional identity.

Peter Richards MW

Peter Richards is a writer, broadcaster and Master of Wine. Across TV, books, radio, events, print and social media, Peter’s work has earned multiple awards and accolades, earning praise such as: ‘illuminating and unpretentious’ (The World of Fine Wine), ‘polished and fluent’, (Evening Standard) and, ‘a national treasure’ (Foodepedia).

More recently, Peter launched the Wine Blast podcast with his wife and fellow Master of Wine, Susie Barrie. The podcast has proved a smash hit, going out to 200 countries, regularly one of the highest-ranking drinks shows in global charts, picking up several awards along the way and making international headlines on a regular basis.

Though based in the UK, Peter has lived and worked in Spain and travelled around the country extensively, writing about the wines and honing his siesta technique as he goes.

Long story short: Peter now considers himself a siesta maestro.
